Introduction

The DermEye is a hand-held LED dermatoscope with polarised light illumination. It is designed exclusively for examination of the skin.

Intended Applications

  1. Diagnosis of melanoma
  2. Diagnosis of other skin tumours
  3. Diagnosis of scabies and pubic lice
  4. Diagnosis of warts
  5. Diagnosis of fungal infections
  6. Diagnosis of hair and scalp disease
  7. Determining the surgical margin of poorly defined skin cancers

Safety Precautions

  1. Do not look directly at the LED light
  2. Patients should close their eyes during examination of the face
  3. DermEye contains magnets. Do not place it near magnetic susceptible devices
  4. Do not store DermEye in abnormally hot or cold environments
  5. Do not operate DermEye with wet hands
  6. Do not open or dismantle DermEye

Directions for Use

  1. Charge your DermEye before use using the USB cable included
  2. Hold DermEye with the magnifying lens side pointing upwards
  3. Press the power button to turn on the LEDs
  4. Place the faceplate on the lesion that is to be examined
  5. Place your eye close to the magnifying lens
  6. Turn the focus dial clockwise or anti-clockwise until the image is in focus
  7. To switch to polarisation mode, press the polarisation mode button
  8. To increase or decrease the brightness, press the brightness control button
  9. Examine the lesion. You can measure the size of the lesion by using the scale on the lens
  10. After the examination is finished, press the power button to turn off the LEDs
  11. Clean the magnifying lens and faceplate with isopropyl alcohol (70%) and/or with the lens cleaning cloth

Digital Examination (Smartphone Connection Kit)

  1. Attach your smartphone to the smartphone connection kit
  2. Open any camera application on your phone
  3. Follow the instructions above and take an image once the lesion is in focus

Non-Contact Examination

It is possible to remove the faceplate for non-contact examination. The faceplate is held with magnets, place your finger nails under it to remove it.

Battery and Charging

DermEye uses a lithium ion battery specifically designed for it.

There are three indicators that show the charging status of DermEye.
Simply connect the device to a PC using the USB cable provided. It takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge.
Do not use DermEye whilst charging.

In order to save on battery, DermEye will shutdown after 5 minutes if not used.
